this might sound stupid but is it a good thing or bad that ive got snails in my tank ,i know theyve come off some plants ive recently put in but are they a good sign or will they live in any water condition as im only into my 2nd week of cycling

any comments would be appreciated

paul

If you are adding ~5ppm ammonia to cycle your tank, I don't think the snails will appreciate that!

If you have added a number of plants, visit the "plant section" and then find the link to the thread something like "why fishless cycling pointless with a planted tank" in the help section. This does presume you have "fast growers", good lighting and possibly a carbon dioxide supplement of some sort, not to mention a fertilising substrate under sand or gravel.

Looking at vanderdraay's tank picture in tropical discussion I don't think there are any where near the number of plants Dave Spencer was talking about in that article. WD

ive got a total of 8 planted bunches in the tank which is 450ltrs and im sure he was talking about heavily planted tanks .
