This question came to mind when being very tired last night. From childhood experiences I remember that salt and snails do not go together :p

I've been wanting to get a figure eight puffer for quite some time now. Have had the tank up and running with bumble bee gobies for about half a year ... and today I'm gonna go to a shop that might very well have them. So I'm really interested to hear what is used to keep puffers teeth down in brackish water. Can snails just go in there? or do we Need shrimp?

I'm not sure how long shrimp could live in Brackish conditions, but the snails you cam keep in another container then drop them in for feeding.

Both shrimp and common aquatic snails do well in brackish water, the Malaysian trumpet snail does particually well and will quickly become a problemin brackish tanks unless kept in check.
