Hi,

I had some ramshorn snails in a small aquarium that was being used to grow plants and grass. The grass promptly disappeared so i assume the snails ate it, however, the snails appeared to have vanished, have they died owing to the sand? was it too salty perhaps?

What is the sand, where did the salt come from?

If the snails ate all the food they liked, once it was gone there would be nothing left for them to eat unless there was also algae in the tank.

It's some building sand. It had stones in it too. I have plants in there and plenty of light, I'd have thought it would be growing algea.

If it's building sand could it be contaminated with something that killed the snails? Cement perhaps?

Doubt it, dad adds cement. I'll remove and find another substrate, maybe use the rest of the silver stones. Though I don't know if there is any better way for grow grass. The plantiI have already was grown in rock wool, and Im not sure where to buy.

I always used swimmingpool filter sand.
