Just found a tiny snail in my new tank, where has it come from??? what do i do with it??

Don't squish it in the tank. Remove it first or else risk releasing eggs.

Let me guess, you've just got some new plants in your tank perhaps...

If you got some new plants thats probably where they came from. I like snail personally - they do well in algae clean-up and are just a neat addition. If you absolutely hate them, you can simply remove them, feed them to your fish, or buy fish that eat them naturally.

Removing them is pretty easy - just put some cucumber in the bottom of you tank and wait for them to congregate. Remove cucumber. At that point you can crush them to remove the shell and feed them to your fish. If crushing them is too much for you, you can buy some clown loaches and then literally eat the snail out of the shell.

In the future, wash your plants before you put them in your tank. Be sure to rub all the leaves with your fingers to remove any eggs. They are transparent and kinda hard to see.

Thanks for the advice. i was so confused at where they came from

don't worry to much about the snails as I've had some in my tank for some time. I just have to pick some out when I do water changes and I had to cut down on feeding. I do find empty shells also which tells me that they are having truble finding enough food. I don't think my guppies are eating them but the lot of them are falling. As for the cucumber it didn't work for me ie.. put it in at night when I woke up just a tinny bit left and two snails.

The snails won't do any harm they will help eat some of your algae, and if you have sand the malaysian trumpet (cone shaped) will help churn your sand. If you really don't want them you can get a loach that will goble them up. What size is your tank (gallons/litres)?

Cucumber and Lettuce didn't work for me when I tried removing them. I have found another way however.

If you plan to remove them or they get out of hand and you want to get some out, just hit your LFS and grab a pack of the weekend feeder things. Just throw one of those in at night before you go to bed and in the morning you've got your snails all over it. Works like a charm.
