Snail Troubles

thats what i did i put the carrot right next to him until the water flow eventually rolled it a few inches away but i put it in there last night around 7 oclock in the evening it is now 11:37 in the morning and i assume he came out because he was now on the other side of the carrot right next to it touching it pretty much but he was in his shell again.

i just moved them both back to where they were more in an open space and i put him right in front of the carrot again
Sniff the shell and see.

lol the shell has been sniffed and there was absolutely zero smell coming from it.. i guess that means hes alive? btw is there a certain amount of time i should leave the carrot in there..can it be in there for too long?

According to ammonia tests I've conducted on my 20 gallon after having a boiled carrot in there for about 7 hours, there was 0 ammonia recorded. So you can leave it there for 7 hours or so with no problem.
The snail might even munch on it during the night. Maybe he's been eating your plants or something.

Today, I've tried something different with my two snails:
I put them in a plastic bowl to feed them flakes, so that the fish won't steal them from the poor bunnies. They eat them extremely fast, and I've heard that the flakes are nutritious for them.

oh well my carrot has definitely been in there longer than 7 hours like i said i put it in about 7-8 last night and now its 1230 in the afternoon so you think i should take it out? and maybe ill try thatbut what kind of flakes do you feed your fish i have tropical flakes but i have betta flakes aswell

Take out the carrot then if he hasn't touched it.
Tetramin flakes is what I use. Not sure about betta flakes but they should be good for snails too since it's basically fish food.
The problem with the flakes is that they:
a) Get eaten by the fish before the snail even gets to them if you have fish that eat like pigs (my hoplo is the biggest pig I've ever had).
b) Just foul the water if they aren't eaten, and your snail might be eating something if he keeps sleeping. Try turning the lights off and then 1 hour later turn them on and see if he is showing night activity.

You could also try algae tablets. I have no experience with those though.

yea i was actually heading on my way out the door in about 15 minutes to the fish store to go get tablets for my corys because they dont seem to get any flakes because my bloodfins are all pigs the second the flakes hit the water the whole school goes nuts so idk if the corys are getting anything..i tried putting in lettuce but they didnt even touch it idk if the pieces are too big because they are pretty small even though i cut the lettuce up pretty good but idk

Hmm, maybe cories aren't big fans of salad like hoplos.
My swordtails, who should be eating veggies, won't touch them no matter how small I make them. Not even peas.
