Whats the most effective snail killer?

Iv used some blue stuff my dad gave me that he used to have for his tank - didn't work

Bought some gastropex on eBay - hasn't worked

Iv still got loads of the little things sliming round my tank

assassin snails apparently eat other snails, just put a few in there and then remove them once you're done. i don't think they breed very quickly because i put in 5 and still only have 5 after 8 months

How big do you think they will get. It takes years for clown loaches to grow past about 3 inches.

i would say both are very good. clown loach for fast removal and assassin snails are a bit slower. i have clown loach in my main tank problem with clown loach is you need a big group of them. and i have assassin snails in my sump tank keeping that nice and clean.

The best way to get rid of pest snails is a few assassin snails backed up by manual removal. Wiegh down a piece of lettuce overnight with stone or ornament, then remove it in the morning, it will be covered in pest snails. Get rid of them as you see fit, then repeat with a new bit of lettuce each night for a few week or so. This will devastate the snail population & your assassin snails will then keep any new ones under control.

Clown loaches grow to 7 -> 10 inches when adult and as they should not be kept on their own but rather in a group of at least 6 (as with most socialable fish) then that is 60 inches of fish in a 20 gallon tank , add to that the current stock & its a recipe for disater.

Fish should never be bought with the intention of moving to a new tank when they get too big.

Tom, How many 10 inch clown loaches have you ever seen. In 35 years of fish keeping I have only seen one outside of public Aquariums!!!!
