Hey guys anyone got any info about creating a very low-tech & cheap snail farm?

I wasthinking small plastic tank, hornwort, java moss or elodea, lamp high up... or no lamp and in the window.....

Any thoughts?

Snails breed pretty easily. All you would really have to do is put all the snails in a heated tank, and you should be overloaded with snails in a small amount of time. It worked for me anyway. I put several snails in a spare five gallon tank with a heater, and a filter running.

easiest way to get a ton of snails is to put one or two in a tank that has no snail-eating fish and wait a couple weeks. more snails then you can ever want!

Why the crap do you want Snails? I can't get rid of the dang things.

Well I have absolutely LOADS of Malaysian Trumpet Snails, that help keep my sand substrates turned over, they breed like crazy.

However, after recently rescuing a dwarf puffer, I need some soft shellet/easy to eat snails. He's taking frozen blood worm at the mo (first feed this morning, watched him eat it, yay!).

None of my other fish are snail eaters, in my other tanks, however, I dont particularly want snail infestations in those!

So the tank has to be heated eh? damn, however, I do have a very warm house, and keep my giant millipede in the airing cupboard, perhaps a cheap power filter, regular cucumber etc. and a small plastic tank? - maybe some calciferous rocks too...

That's very true, however I think the last place he wants an overload of snails is probably in his community tank ;).
