Please can some one help?

While moving our fish the UV light bulb comes out of the clips and smashes, and glass and the dust inside the bulbs shower into the tank full of fish!

Emergency! we take all fish out! into new tank!

Can someone please tell me if my fish are gonna die?????

Sarah

How are the fish acting.
Do you have another tank you can transfer the fish into.
Water change and black carbon to remove the chemicals.
You will have to remove the glass from the tank,

Hi Wilder,

We removed all fish in the tank within about 15min as we were moving them when it happened but im worried they will already but affected!

Thanks for your speedy reply

How are they are they heavy breathing.
If not they might be ok, I'm afraid time will tell.

You might be better putting this thread in tropical discussion more members go over there.

Miss wiggle here now she probably have some good advice to offer.

if they're in a tank with clean water then that's the best you can do for them for now, watch the fish closley, inspect them for any cuts, watch they're behavior are they breathign heavily, flicking and rubbing? give us as much info on their condition and behaviour as you can

if you are going to use any of the decor, gravel filter etc in the new tank
add activated carbon as this will absorb any toxins the tube may have spilled into the tank
(I know fluorescent tubes have 1-3 grams of mercury in them, but not sure that applies to UV tubes)

other than that the wiggly one has given good advise above :)

Well thanks every one who answered my distress call!

I have just poped home for lunch to check my babys and they are all ok and feeding now so fingers crossed!

The fish are Tropheus Fire cracker so i will watch them very carefully!

Thanks again

Well I didn't realise that mercury was used in tubes ... you've got the figure wrong though it's more like
15mg of mercury in each fluorescent tube
Still a heck of a lot considering how many tubes must be used and smashed each year.

You'll have a heck of a job of removing all the glass. I'd just throw the whole substrate in the bin.
