Whew ! Sukie is the main man ! I mean the main woman......

Main. . something!

I just ordered 1lb of brine shrimp eggs. . cultures are started. . . hatchery is going. . egg yolk cooked just in case. . .

I'm trying to be prepared. . . . :S

Nice ..... don't everfeed them you migth cloud the water and that's going to be very bad to your Babies.

Good luck - Crack is Wack ...

Thanks Natsuko!!

So. . I have a goal ~ to have at least have 8 fry survive. .

I look in the tank. . and count 8 fry then I'm off.   So as long at I get to that number then I'm good. Strange yeh, I never said I was normal ;) (Oh don't worry there's more than just 8 but eh too busy too count them all) Why 8?? It's just a good number.

(I guess this is my spawn diary eh. . . )

I'll try to get pics every week.

Thanks for all the support guys!! Feelin' the love!!

8 is a good number  I guess everyone comes up with their own technique. When they're really little I scan the bottom several times a day, as long as I don't see any lil dead white spots- all is well :look:

Last night I finally moved the group in the 2.5 in to the bigger tub with the week older fry. It was quite a challenge, but easy at the same time. I'm a real worrier about even one getting left behind (they get stuck in the crack of the top of the tank when they're so small) and that happened to one. I couldn't get him over the lip and he was still in the 2.5 in like a teaspoon of water after I tried to flush him out. It got really awkward and he fell on the carpet (luckily I was sitting on the floor anyway) but it was odd to see the tiniest fish in the world swimming around in a drop of water on the carpet. I managed to scoop him up with the underside of my nail, then he jumped between my closed fingers and wiggled as I carried him over to his new home. It was a crazy, lightning fast experience. It felt so weird, he's so tiny but so strong.

Okay I actually sat there for a couple mins and counted and it's above 30 right now. . . :good: 8 is a nice low# so I'm setting myself up for complete failure.

What a lucky guy!

My guys are in a 2.5 right now. . . :fun: w/ white gravel (yeh they blend in so nicely I can't even tell they're there) I have no idea when I'll move them to the grow out tank - so I'll be freaking out for sure!

Wuv - how many babies do you have??

I couldn't even tell you for sure how many mahachai fry I have right now. I had a good 125 that were several weeks to just a couple of weeks old when I finally pulled the parents and put em in that 5 for you. Then they spawned and I posted those cute fry pics, out of that spawn I wound up with 200 at the very least. Then I moved the parents to the 2.5 and they spawned again and had around 60'ish, it was a much smaller spawn. So, what's that, around 400 someodd fry from them? Yeah. :|

Careful moving them with gravel. I'd leave them as long as possible, at least two to three weeks. When I move fry I usually fill their new tank less than half way, pick up the current tank (after draining at least half way) and then set it in the new tank and gently tip it over and let them swim out. Of course that's with a bare bottom. (The tank, not me.)

Maybe when I move them to the 25gal in three weeks, I'll set up the tank and put the 5gal in the 25gal and let them swim out! Yeh 3 weeks. . . that's when I'll move them or maybe 4-5weeks . . it's going to be a fun filled time.

Well Wuv was right - they're growing quick!!!

I did a 25% H2O change tonight and good thing I had a bucket because 5 got sucked into it

Consider this 1week pics. . . (sorry I don't mean to bump this thread just ignore me!! :good: )

OMG growing you said? They're almost microscopic! BTW have you considered a career change to "hand model"? This betta mother thing could be a springboard to places you never even considered going...

Hand model. . . I need a manicure!!!

But I did think that when I retire (in 30+yrs) I'll consider become a full time betta breeder   Company name: Lucky 8 Bettas!! :p

Joshin' you goilfriend. I'm glad you posted that photo as folks like me haven't seen them as babies B4. So glad you bumped the post up. Yes, 8 is a good number all the way around-such symmetry. I think you're gonna be a good mom cuz you're careful and exacting I'm willing to bet.
Thanks again for posting the photo. Truly amazing stuff!

Well folks it week 2. . . and here's what the babies look like (it's a link because 1. I take gawd-awful pics and 2. they're tiny!)
