What is the smallest bichir known in the hobby? I have seen some down at my LFS and was wondering whether to buy one. It would be kept with Angelfish and other cichlids of 4"+. If possible could you also state the maximum size fish it would eat just so I don't go wrong in the future and add small fish which it may eat.

Thank you,

P delhezi & P senegalis are the 2 commonly traded smaller species. P oranatus gets much bigger.

With Bichirs it's difficult to state what the smallest fish that they can e kept with. One often reads that 5cm roundish fish are safe, being the widest their mouth can open...in theory.
I have heard of bichirs being kept with Guppies and being fine.
And I have also heard of them having a go at adult Oscars.
It really depends on the personality of the fish itself.
It also depends on how well you feed them. If they are hungry, they may be more tempted to try and eat the other tank mates.

palmas or senegalese should be fine with the likes of Angels and other good sized species
