so...im looking at getting a new tank no more than 25L, does anyone know of any smaller external filters that are out there, nice and cheap, it will be used for my platy fry when they are ready and then for a male betta, also does anyone have experience with the nano heaters?

I would just use a Sponge Filter, Air powered. No where for the fry to get sucked up into.

would that be ok to use with the betta after the fry have moved up?

sponge filters are good for just babies, but if there are adults in the tank then the sponge filter isnt going to help with all of that fish poo

i use the aqua-tech 5-15 gal in my 5 gal. it is a really good filter!

i breed guppies in that tank and i just put some netting over the intake when they are a week or two away from dropping. i also make the opposite side heavily planted so the babies can hide *away* from the filter.

i keep the tank filled up to the black trim, A. for the sand to not be moved in the current and B. so there is less current going downwards

as for heaters, my tank stays about 72 in the winter so i dont worry about it too much

thanks guys, will definitely be looking into both but the external ones got me at the momoent, just because im familiar with them as i have one. and the netting idea is brilliant. i may be keeping adults in there at some point aswell so i think that may be the best option

This is the one I'm going for: http://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/aquarium-1/aquarium-filters/external-filters/aquarium-external-filter-150-l-h.html
