Hi

I am new to this site but I am looking for all the information I can. I have had my original fish for 8 months before purchasing 2 red line torpedos 10 days ago from my local fish shop. While examining my tank tonight I have notice hundreds on small, approx 5mm long, very thin worms in the water, substrate and on a corner of the tank. I performed a 20% water change 2 days ago and I did not notice them then. I have 5 fish in a 100 litre tank with areation and a fluval 3 plus filter with a new carbon filter. I "cleaned" all the other filter medium in the removed tank water and treated the replacement water with Nutrafin cycle and aquaplus. All the fish seem normal in themselves but have rapid gill movement. Can anyone help me please.

They could be 'Planaria' ........They are relatively harmless to normal sized fish, but eggs/fry can be harmed I believe. They live off gravel bacteria/ excess food so if you make sure no food is left-over and give it a good vacuum clean they won't have food source.

Google them and see if they look like it>>>if not them, others might help out on here soon.......

Do another water change and check water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, test water before the water change.
Increase aeration in the tank.

can't open link.....might just be my PC(?)

thanks for the info. I could not open the link as well but did i the google search and it popped up there. Looks like some hard work for I while. One site recommends a 20% water change/gravel clean then adding water straight from the tap. No conditioners or any thing!!!!! Not sure about that one. Any further recommendations of how to get rid of these would be most welcome.

Again thanks

So they look exactly like the picture on 'Planaria' website?? If they are, then the larger fish in your tank will usually eat them, and they are harmless to them.......but if you are planning on breeding, the Planaria are bad for the eggs/Fry.......By keeping the gravel as clean as poss. and not over-feeding, they should disappear.....
(I actually have some in one of my tanks at the moment, but they will soon disappear after cleaning/no excess food/ big fish eating them as they appear.)

What fish do you have in the Tank, by the way? :good:
