Hey, I was just wondering, are they're any peaceful south american cichlids that stay small, are not extremely aggressive, come in many colors and hybridize with eachother, similar to assorted african cichlids such as elctric yellows, red zebras, johannis and etc

Archocentrus genus is probably what you're looking at, but not all them are peaceful. Hybridisation is also frowned upon, well not so much letting the fish pair up and spawn, but selling/giving away the fry definitely is.

Why do you want them to make hybrids. You posted this in the african forum also. Also, Try to avoid buying from the Assorted African tank, as they are mostly hybrids. I am not saying that all of them are hybrids, but a majority of them are.

I was just curious in which species are close enough tio crossbreed. Simply, curiosity.

Well most apisto's will cross breed, eg a cockatoo male and agassizi female.

do you think bolivian rams and GBR would hybridize?

They just might. I DO NOT reccomend hybridizm. It is wrong, and is not just "introducing a new fish into the world" If it was okay to do it, then releasing aquarium fish into the wild would not mess up the entire ecosystem. Please DO NOT do it.

I think we covered that in the other post. We are not realing them into the wild but simply raising them in our respective tank's.

no they cant

Agreed

I thought since they were both Mikrogeophagus that they might do it. SInce two apistogramma can, i thought that they could. I didn't give a deffinate answer. Oh well, I still dont\'t think making hybrids is the right thing ot do.

If they are both different types of rams, then they can definitly interbreed. Two different species of rams can and will interbreed. They should not be kept in the same tank. One male will take over and try to breed with all the females. Mosty new wolrd cichlids can interbreed with one another. Although I doubt a ram and an oscar will try, I am talking about similar fish.
