Ive got a yellow colored VT in a divided 10 gallon with an orangish/reddish one on the other side. Today, I was looking at the yellow ones fins, and at the tip of a few of the sections of the bottom fin (im not really sure of the proper name of all that is) there were very small, almost so small I couldnt see, redish colored dots. The water pramaters are normal, with nothing high. 0 ammonia and nitrItes, and around 10 nitrAtes. There are live plants in the tank if that matters, and it is lightly filtered (hardley any current. I do a 10-20% water change weekly on it.
Any ideas as to what it is?

Thanks!

edit: spelling

Maracyn one and two straight away if you stand a chance of saving the betta.
Red spots on skin can be caused by:
Regarding the small red dot, small pinprick like haemorrhages (called petechiae) can be due to a local lesion, a generalised septicaemia or toxaemia caused by acute viral and bacterial infections.

Should I separate him into his own 2.5 gallon to treat or treat both of them?

Edit: I dont have maracyn one or two right now, Ive only got sulfa 4 TMP, forma green, Fluke-Tabs, Melafix, and Pima Fix. I really need to update my meds. Would any of these work?

Yes seperate him if that sulfa is a bacterial med get him started on it.
Though tetracycline if you can isssolate the fish would be better.

Definatly sounds like septecemia

I've found that the most effective treatment for this is tetracycline

Good luck :good:

you get red marks on goldfish by water being too cold? dunno whether that helps

Well, the red spots are gone after much trouble trying to figure out how to dose sulfa 4 tmp. The bottle said 1/4 teaspoon for every 20 gallons, and my betta hospital tank is 2.5 gallons. So basically that came out to be 1/32 of a teaspoon and the smallest measure I have is 1/4 of a teaspoon. So I took the meds to my chemistry teacher at school and he converted it to ml for me and then proceded to read the ingredients. He freaked out and told me it was very dangerous, so he gave me goggles and gloves and a mask for my face .

So now my real question is... do I need to continue treatment. It says on the bottle to continue for 10 days, each day preforming a 25% water change. I have done this for 3 days. But, because this medication is so strong, should i continue dosing it to my betta? I understand theyre rather sensitive, so I was thinking maybe 5 days of treatment, not 10. Any ideas opinions on this?

Thanks.

if i were you i would keep treating him on it cause as you said they were hardley noticable and they could of shrunk in size. ye keep him going for a few more days cause that will get the last of the infections out of him.
Good Luck,
Luke.

I'd treat him the recommended time, unless of course he starts reacting poorly to the medication.

Thats what I was thinking, but wanted to make sure before continuing.

Say he starts reacting badly to it.. should I just do a 20%-50% water change and leave him in there or do a 100% change?
