Im looking for some small pred fish that would ift in a 29 gallon. i have a spare 29 so i was looking for something different than a community tank.

There are loads of suitable sized predators you could have in that tank, try looking at Dwarf pike cichlids, dwarf snakeheads, south american leaf fish or frogmouth catfish for starters. The real problem is that due to their predatory natures most of the fish you will encounter will be species tank only fish and may have to have the whole 29g to themselves.

African Butterfly Fish are another surface dwelling possibility. :)

Yes i know it would have its own tank :)
Can you tell me thr most common for this size of a tank. One that i may find at my LFS?

thanks

Not a fish, but if you wanted something extra special, how about a pair of African Clawed Frogs?

Great Pets!

I would suggest some of the smaller African cichlids. These are aggressive but colorful, and you could have several to a tank. You can also keep bottomfeeders such as the synodontis catfish in with them to keep the tank clean. These gorgeous fish are hardy and easy to keep as well as fairly predaceous. Check out the African cichlid forum area to find out more.

No. No Oscar can live in a 30 gal. for life. From what I hear, a full-grown oscar needs at least a 75 gal. to be happy.

You could possibly look at bringing in a small shoal of Dwarf Puffers, but they will require brackish water. Other brackish fish include mono's, scats and perhaps Gobbies.

Parrot Fish are an alternative
Ghost Knife Fish? You will eventually need a larger tank though

When the oscar gets too big you can always sell it back to the lfs, or trade it in for a smaller fish.

In my personal opinion, buying a fish to sell it or exchange it in the not so distant future is not beneficial for the species long term health or the hobbyist

I dont think i will want puffers, or frogs.
Anyone got pics and facts on the leaf fish?

i like the south american leaf fish.
What do they eat? other fish?
