Are there any that could fit in a 10 gal aquarium, and wouldnt hurt my pleco? Or do Cichlids need to be keep only with cichlids?

Three questions..
Would they hurt other fish If I do plan to put some in?
Do they grow very big?
Are they rare to find in a Pet Shop?

what kind of pleco is it? common plecos can get very large -- too large for your tank, and certainly too large to share the tank with any cichlids that I know of, unless you plan to get a bigger tank.

How about a pair of an Apisto species?

I read that a 10 gallon tank can be used to breed dwarf cichlids, so you might be able to keep some in there. :dunno:

Apistogramma and shell dwellers are your only options.

Whether they can work with the pleco depends on the pleco. Bristlenose can handle it no problem, common pleco's should be ok too. Shell dwellers may not hesitate to take on a pleco, but they generally won't go out of their way to instigate a fight either.

Not a clear pic, but here's my half inch Multifasciatus shelldweller sizing up a fully grown Bristlenose before attempting to drive him away by flaring and feinting attacks. Pretty funny to watch actually, considering the size difference!

I agree. Common plecs have tough scales, and apistos are very aggresive ne ways.
Common Plecs are scaleless fish drobbins, hence the use of salt is not advised.

No, Ive been told, on this forum, by a mod that you can add salt to a tank with common plecs because it will not hurt them. PS- the comment on the apistos wasmeant to say NOT very aggresive  typo, my bad
