so, this is my south American tetra tank, it has a wide variety of peaceful south American fish, from a single worm line pleco, several varieties of tetra, and s shoal of hatchets... it's open topped, but highly shaded with many layers of plants between the ceiling mounted light, and the tanks surface... it was uniformly, highly shaded, but I removed a large peace lily, and replaced it with a surface mounted pot, with several cuttings in, doing so left the left side of the tank much less shaded... previously almost all the fish preferred the right side of the tank, even though both sides had the same amount of shade... now almost all the fish are in the less shaded side of the tank... there are still
some species that prefer the shade... but many more than expected move towards the light..
