is there a small arowana?

i like the looks of aros but dont think i can ever get a big enouf tank for a silver.

what is the smallest arowana there is??

i think asian's, but still require a tank of about 150-180 gallons.

asian aro... starting price £3-400 and minimum tank 6x2x2 preferably 7x2.5x2

what about autralian arrowana? (jardini arrowana)
they don't get too big, and you can pick them up for £50 :good:

still need a big tank, and can be a bit rough to other tank mates, but they're great fish.

adult jardini = no tankmates

They are incredibly aggressive and in most cases will not tolerate any other free swimming fish in the tank,
(plecos or catfish can sometimes work in taller tanks)

6x2x2 is absolute bare minimum for an australian or asian arowana

I had a baby Jardini (3 inches) a few years back and he was an awesome fish.i didnt have him long though because he jumped out of his tank one st. patties night. However, i have recently started a new tank and was looking for fish and i came across a 2-3 inch AFrican Butterfly Fish. only 5 dollars and he really looks like an arowana with wings. he only gets 4 inches big and can be kept with other fish as long as they are bottom dwellers and maybe mid dwellers but i dont know yet. he ate a daddy long legs i found in my room the night i bought him and he also went after a few guppies. pretty good fish if you have limited space and want a community tank with one small sized predator.

You're in the United States asian arrowana's are illegal here. You can however have the ones listed below if you have room.

Scleropages jardini = Australian Pearl Arowana AKA: Northern Spotted Barramundi or Jardini Arowana (Northern Australia and New Guinea)
Scleropages leichardti =Australian Spotted Arowana AKA: Spotted Barramundi or Saratoga (Northern Australia and New Guinea)
Osteoglossum ferrerai =Black arrowana (SouthAmerica)
Osteoglossum bicirrhosum =Silver arrwoana (South America)

ANd yes i left out the African arrow as they are more of an advanced keepers fish especially when they are young-Anne

all the above need minimum of 8'x2.5' wide tank..

scleropages are psychopaths once they grow ( after about 15-18")

silver can get to 3'+ and can have serious attitude problems

ferrerai is your best bet.. no idea on us prices....

blacks will grow just as large. if you arent able to provide a large enough tank, then an arowana is not the right choice for you.

ive got a 2ft silver arrowana here you are have a look, he is going in a 8 x 3 x 3 soon
