Hi guys, just a quick one.

In my tank I am getting some brown algae which is fine and I clean it up.
I have noticed I have got some dark green spots of algae on the glass too. I am not sure what algae this is or where it comes from. Some big spots and some tiny spots. Dont know if i should be worried or not?????

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks

I've had brown algae in my tank, it's still there and I was told it's a sign of a cycling tank and the nitrates are high. Also it was suggested it could be down to not enough light. Apparently it will go away by itself eventually and the fish won't touch it. I don't know about the green one, someone will let you know shortly I'm sure.

Hiya,

I have the green spotty stuff on the glass too - it's quite hard to get off but the algae scraper always wins in the end. Can't help with what it is though. Mine grows quite slowly so running the algea scrappy doohicky watsit over the glass each time I do a water change seems to keep it under control so it doesn't obscure my view of the fishies!

Yeah mine too, grows very slow and is a pain to get off. I think i need an algae scraper thing. I have just been using a cloth at the moment. As long as it isnt harmful, i am happy!!

Thanks

I have the same algae in my main tank, although i don't worry about it as its not really noticeable and it offers my oto's a fresh algae supply to eat :) .
Algae is not harmful for fish (it can actually be good as it can help lower nitrates in the tank), its just kinda unsightly, so as long as you are not bothered by its looks or don't minding rubbing the off patch off, its fine  .
