Hey all,
So I'm new to the whole world of bettas and the forum but I have a problem that hopefully someone can help me with. My fish (Sushi) is in a male, crowntail in a two gallon tank with a filter. He seems to be great - growing, eating normally etc. He is usually very energetic but he has been spending a lot of time at the bottom of the tank laying on his pebbles and leaning against the glass. Once I wave my fingers in front of his tank he regains energy and swims to the front, excited by my greeting. I don't know if that is just him sleeping or if there is something else I should be concerned with. He has a lot of personality and even rubs up on my hand if I put it in the tank. Is this a case of depression, sickness or just an overly concerned mother?? haha

Bettas just tend to float around and hang around on things or rest on the bottom.

This is my put in. Somone may have a diffrent answer.

It could be old age, if there are no signs of illness on him. Most of my older ones tend to laze on the bottom, although sitting upright, then swim over to me in case I might be feeding them. Is the water too cold? Thats another reason for lethargy. :good:

Providing water stats and temperature are ok, and he has no other signs of illness id say he was normal, as liz2 said it could also be old age creeping up on him if he is an older fish.
I had one that rarely swam about except to eat.
