Sleeping And Lights

Just wondering, I know that fish don't sleep the same way people do, because they have to move to keep water flowing through their gills. I've heard they do go into a resting state. I was wondering should I turn off my tank lights at night so that it is easier for my fish to rest? Or is it a good idea to turn them off just to avoid a build up of agle?

you should turn them off at night to avoid algae, etc, and save on the lecy bill

i always turn mine off at night to mimick their real day and night in the wild the best i can

Ok, I knew it would cut down on the alge I just was making sure that they would be ok to "sleep" with the light on. But yeah i'll turn it off at night cause i'm sure they would be more happy that way . thanks

And I heard most fish dont even need light... alot of fish live in caves where there is no light.. so really the light is only beneficial for us humans so we can enjoy looking at them.

Yeah but usually those fish don't have eyes, because they live in total darkness.

and the river are normally quite cloudy so light would be reduced

fish in the wild need UV light to produce vitamin D, but our fish get it from food

our aquarium lights aren't beneficial, as they don't produce UV light

Fake that way I won't have to worry about lighting for my plants.

why arent you having sucess with real plants, there the best thing i ever did.

its just one more thing ive got to worry about maybe when ive fully cycled my tank i might rethink but mines just falling apart

plus i cant afford the feed for them
