how many hours of sleep should i give my fish (community with a ram)

with plants

10 12

i heard of ppl who never turn off their lights

dose it really matter?

A good day-night cycle is important for the health of the whole tank I go for a 12 hour balance. If you consider that in the far North(or South) it can be constant daylight for a month or more at the height of summer and the wild fish that live in these regions have adapted, then I am sure some tanks would be okay leaving the lights on. I am not sure that it would be the best thing for all types of tropical fish since many of them are nocturnal. Then there would be the algea problem

If you wish to view your tank at night perhaps look into getting moon lights they really look great in a tank i have one in my 40 gal.

i tend to have my lights on form 8 am to 10-12 pm(occasionaly later but rarely). more than most suggest but i find no harm in it.
