I finally have the time to get a journal going of our tanks, so I figure i'd share pictures of our two tanks :)

The first set is the progression of our 30 gallon
We did a wacky cycling both with and without fish, but everything has been going going great.

This is how it lookes on 8/17/05 (the beginning).

Cycling with some plants. 1/2 inch Flourite w/ black gravel. Whisper 40 filter.

Finally cycled, started laying things out and put our good old black skirts in the tank.

more re-scaping, the bog wood on the right has a rock on it because it refused to sink for 3 flipping weeks :X .

and now where it sits, almost completely stocked but the aquascape if far from done. All .7 WPG is working out great and the plants are thriving lol. The fry net is for a stray guppie fry we got with our Kulhi loaches.

Next up is some pictures of the plants and fish:

First up are the plants, all in .7 WPG. The only ones that haven't "worked" are Moneywort and Dwarf Hairgrass (it never spreads out)

So far we've added Camboba, Jungle Val, Corkscrew Val, Hornwort and Java Fern.
If you see another plant thats in there and isn't one of the above feel free to I.D. it for me :D

Next is the 5 gallon.

We got the tank in January and here's the progression

As any noob did, we started with the "disco inferno"

A while later added some deconrations, got a little overstocked here lol. We had no clue what we were doing

Another look, the Tetras got sick and we lost one of them :( the rest are now happy in the 30 gallon

And now where it stands. The aquascape sucks but I plan on moving the camboba and some Hornwort over and I have to let the Java Moss grow out

And lastly pictures of the current 5 gallon inhabitants.

Sashimi the lady's Betta fish

The girlfriend might kill me for saying this, but it took here flippin forever to pick him out. There were about 30 at the LFS and every time a kid cam over to pick one up she'd move the Bettas she liked to the top shelf or put them behind a box lol. I think she made a good choice though.

Yep, he is a nice one. :good:

I take ages to pick bettas as well and get defensive if another person even looks at one I am considering. When I bought Jerry the store had to stay open til 5 minutes past closing time so I could be just sure...

Great tanks and love Sashimi, well worth the time it took to choose him.! What variety is the little Loach , he looked just the right size for my 30 Gallon tank.

They're Black Kulhi Loaches, the ones that are pictured are Juveniles however.

Here's a picture of one of the Juveniles next to our fully grown Kulhi Loach who is about 3 inches long.

Also, when we had just one (and had no clue what we were doing) the loach never came out. Now that there are 3 they fight the Cories for food :)

Both tanks look excellent :good:
What type of cories are they in the 30 gallon?
EDIT: i didnt notice they were in your sig

I love your kuhlis! I am going to buy some next time I go to the store for my 29 gallon. They are so pretty!
Oh and by the way I love the tanks too!!!!! :D

Thanks for the comments!

The Kuhli Loaches are quite fun. When we had one it was extremely nocturnal, I could go days without seeing it. Now that we have 3 they go wild, sometimes two of them will start do vertical circles follwing each other along the glass lol.

The Peppered Cories are awesome, their colors are coming out beautifully. However, we have an "oddball" that is missing 3/4 of its top fin :( but I realized this when we got them home and it's doing awesome. It got pissed enough yesterday that it headbuted one of the loaches.

Here's an updated picture of the 30 gallon, the Guppy fry is now 2 times as big and in 2 weeks we'll probably add him/her to the community. I added some Water Wisteria and Java Fern. Also, the WPG should be up to 1.4 within the next month and I plan on adding chemical ferts on water changes sometime soon:

Also we started having a small algae problem :X
