Sir Puddles Of The 3ft Cottage

Wow, great fish there.
Had an electric catfish at one of my lfs. Not for sale but for show. Had his own tank. The guy that worked there who was also his owner said that the catfish wasnt that aggressive and if it could clearly see that you were going to put your hand in the tank and feed him then he'd be fine and wouldnt send out a charge. If you suprised him though from behind he'd let rip. He said that it wouldnt kill you but would send you back like 6ft.
I wasnt going to see if he was right.

The electric catfish produce a much lower ampage with even large full grown adults producing less than one amp and less than 400 volts, ive had shocks from my 17" e cat and while its unpleasent its not painfull (apart from making me bite my tounge hard).

I've given my electric eel live feeders and watched it litterally blow the feeders out of the water with shocks from some distance away, nasty stuff

When i worked in the lfs for work experience they had a young electric catifish in one of there tanks. And as i went round algae wiping i noticed this one tank with loads of algae on the glass. So i put my hand in to wipe it off, and was nearly finnished when i saw behind this rock two pairs of eyes looking at me...ahhhh!!!! And my hand was about 2 inches away from it. I new straight away what it was becasue i had notified in my brain on the first day they had one. Luckily i didnt get shocked! It's annoying when labels get switched and the wrong labels are on the wrong tanks  especially when its an electric catifish.

CFC - How do you carry out maintenance on the tank without touching the water?

EDIT: I did the same thing with and ambush puffer eeek! Can't remmeber what type it was, but i noticed it buried amongst the sand. The moral of the story is don't day dream or go to sleep while algae wiping loads of tanks, and look at whats in it before hand.
