i have just got some bog wood that has not been in a tank i got it of the old fella who had got it given i was wondering what the stages are to get it ready for the fish tank please help as i dont have a clue also it floats
please help :hyper:

if its small enough boil it a couple of times, this removes alot of tannins and any bugs/bacteria etc in/on the wood. if it still floats then submerge it in hot water until it sinks. i had a piece that was too large to boil so over about 3/4 days i kept it in a drink cooler and kept changing the water for boiling water out of the kettle every day, eventually it sank! just be patient, it will sink :good: wood has air trapped inside and if its never been in water then this needs to escape, boiling water draws it out and you will see bubbles coming from the wood when it really hot water :good:

wow thats some piece of wood!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hyper:
you could try putting it in the bath and adding boiled water, apart from that you could also weigh it down with rocks/slate etc.........
how big is your tank if the wood is 6 feet long?

Just tie it to a stone or piece of slate rock with clear nylon string (fishing line works perfectly ) and drop it in your tank and forget about it. Eventually you can untie it and remove the rock and string.

cheers guys i put it in the bath in the end and added hot boiling water also my tank is 6ft by 2ft by 2ft i am just setting it all up gathered the bits and now builing it into the front room slowly i will take pics and keep u all up dated on the progres on all the stages taken also this is a great forum guys well done all of you are happy to reply :D
