Hi all. I am keeping a single dwarf gourami in a small quarantine tank 30litre ish. It was cycled with ammonia and water tests show no ammonia and nitrites. My question is will a single fish produce enough ammonia to maintain the filter properly? Thanks.

the filter will only keep enough bacteria for the gouramis waste, then if you add more fish it will grow to support them

The single female gourami was moved into my community tank and was not eating for a day - died with no physical sign of illness or damage. This has happened to me before and i get the feeling that they can't live with or without each other (such a romantic). When they're together the male pesters the hell out o the female. When he's gone she seems to die from not having him there???????

With fish like that, you normally need a larger female to male ratio; something like two or three females for each male (although you wouldn't want to be adding more than one male, unless your tank is huge).

Dwarf gouramis are very prone to a disease called iridovirus, so that might explain your losses.
