Yes they can and do flare

i have never had a girl betta, but from what i have gathered from the others, yes they do flare. i am betting though its not as impressive as the boys are.
some of the others who do have girls could tell you better.

While i'm here I bought some brine shrimp with these females.
As you probably know they are pretty small. Should I just put 5-6 live ones in and leave the bettas to it?

Another question,

I have recently bought 2 females. I have had them in the tank for about 24hours. When I first put them into the tank they were swimming around a lot but now they either keep themselves a float near the heater and aeration filter, or on the sand.

Is this them just settling in?
Or should I be worried about what maybe wrong.

(I put some finrot treatment in before they did to prevent disease whilst the little nips on their fins grows back).

I would say it is fine... my males like to hang near the filter, maybe its a bit warmer there and they like it :) And another of mine lays on planys and in his coconut hut, maybe they just like having a rest :D

if ur keeping the females 2gether, u need atleast 4 to spread the agression out

Strangely enough there has been no aggression between them what so ever. Was thinking about getting 2-3 more, How many do you think should be kept in a 13 litre tank?

Hi
Is there anything else in the tank? Thing is 13 lts is .......about.......2.7 gallons, off the top of my head? So technically one more if there isn't anything else in there

Its 2.9 gallons just checked

not alot in all fairness

I have 2 males in a divided 4gallon tank

i reckon u cannot get ne more girls in there, i just dnt think keeping 2 is a good idea

I agree with PB. We've got 9 in a 15 gal but the least we ever had was 4. Definately wouldn't keep just the 2 together in such a small tank. They need lots of hiding places to get away if one suddenly becomes agressive.

Thin layer of sand in the bottom with a little fern added for them to hide behind.
I am on the lookout for another 60litre tank - so if I get one they'd all be moved to there.

I have just added half a poly cup to my 2 male betta tanks, Will they make a bubble nest in them naturally, or will it take them a few days to figure out what it's for?

my girlies r fairly tame towards each other as there is 9 of em to spread the agression out, the less i had the more torn fins i saw

rule is normally 1gallon (imperial gallon) per fish

good luck :)
