Hi,

I'm new to this forum and after reading many, many threads am taking the plunge and making my first post (so please be gentle)

I have two silver mollies in my community tank and about a month ago I caught them in what looked like mating behaviour. Low and behold 4 weeks later I have my very first fry!!! After a mad dash to my local fish store to get a fry trap I have managed to rescue 10 fry. I am puzzled though as they appear to be different colours, some are dark and some are clear. I've had them for quite a while now, a good 3 to 4 months so I'm sure my silver molly is the dad. Am I likely to get different colours?

I was supposed to be getting a new tank to house a betta this weekend but perhaps that plan should be postponed and I should get a larger tank for the mollies. Gosh, decisions, decisions.

It is possible that one or both of your fish are the offspring of a darker fish and they therefore are carriers of this trait and passed it on to their offspring.

[Edit] Also, Mollies can store sperm for quite a long time, meaning that the male that you have may very well not be the father. I've heard of Mollies storing sperm for 6 months (perhaps longer).

it is always neat to see what your fish will turn out to be as they keep growing :)

Wow, that would be cool. I can definately see one that is much darker than the others. I suppose the tricky part is keeping them alive now

she may well of been pregnant when you got her. imho its nice to get different colours. Ihave fry that are now 3-4 weeks old what are lepard (yellow\black) bred with a black dalmation salfin and 4/5 of them are silver.

As i have said before mollies seem to do better free swimming (not as stressed) fed on crushed flake and micro pellet
