Hi, I am new to this forum and wanted some advice on my molly. My silver lyretail is always hiding and staying out of site. I don't know what is wrong with her. Please help!!!

Sorry to hear about your molly; however, we need a lot more information before we can work out what might be wrong (so sorry for all the questions!)

How big is the tank, how long has it been set up, is it cycled and have you tested the water at all?

How many fish are in the tank and what species are they?

How is the tank decorated?

Is your water hard or soft?

My tank is a 20 gallon and has been set up for about 2 months, it is cycled and  every thing with the water parameters is perfectly fine. There are currently 3 fish in the tank. Two platies and the one molly. with those there are also platy fry in a breeder net. The tank has a helicopter a log and then three plants that hide the heater that the fish always swim around in. I don't know whether the watr is hard or soft.

How did you cycle it?
Was the molly in there whilst you were cycling?

One of the things about mollies (and platies, as well, as it happens) is that they don't do very well at all in soft water. Their bodies have evolved to take in minerals from the water, because that's where they naturally live. If your water in your tank doesn't have those minerals, it can, and does, cause health issues. THis is why Fluttermoth asked you about hard or soft water - since you don't know, it would be really good if you could find out.

For instance, does your kettle fur up with limescale?
