I was thinking of keeping 3 of these in my new 55G.
Are they community fish do the go well withNeons, Cories, Rams and phantoms?
Alos, does anyone know which forum "Angel Fish" would go into?

As peaceful plant eaters I'd imagine they'd be ok, though they seem a little overbearing compared to all the little fish in your tank, IMO. I'd be concerned about the neons security more then anything (that they might get nervous with them around), but I always get a little paranoid with those little guys.

Angels are New World Cichlids.

Thanks for the angle info.

Anyways, so the neons might just get scared because of the size of the dollars?
I dont really find that an issue, because the neons group might get bigger as the silver dollars get bigger (IMO, I mean I'll add some - I wont even try to get them to breed :p )
So....anyone have any info on these? Like temp. recomendation, group size, ect?

As with all shoaling fish, bigger is better with group size - at least 4 would be nice. Like most common aquarium fish you really don't need to worry about the perameters very much - the typical 76-80 temps used in most tanks works just fine. Having vegetable matter in their diet is very good for their health - spirulina flakes or prepared vegetables, along with the rest of their diet.

Silver dollars will chase and eat much smaller fish like neons and other very small tetras and given the choice between vegetable and meaty foods will always go for the meat first every time, my 6 are particually fond of gamma shrimp but will also nibble on pieces of fish or mussel.
Silver dollars are also notorious fin nippers that will make short work of any long or fancy finned fish.

Wait, so they shouldn't go with neons? I'm getting them very small (the Dollars) and the neons might be smaller still. But will they still eat the neons as juviniles?

If something will eat neons, yet can't because they aren't big enough, then it's a stressful environement for the neons even still. Potential predetors with prey is never a good situation no matter the size.

I keep reg silver dollars and red hooks. I feed them feeder guppies and small convicts. They will not however eat fish that do not fit in their mouth but may chase them quite a bit.

They will destroy plants. You can feed cucumbers, peas ect.

It's strange that your silver dollars eat smaller fish, they are not carnivourous, they eat plants...

Do you have any info on breeding silver dollars?

My oscars eat plants too but they're still carnivors. Silver dollars are infact omnivors that will take advantage of all food sources which includes smaller fish and inverts.

From my knowledge of fish, be it very limited compared to many, arnt all fish omnivours, regardless of what sources say?
You put a small lance fish in tank full of neons and neons will eat the meat..

EDIT:I mean carnivours not omnivours, thanks for pointin that out cfc. It was late and im stickin to that excuse. :*)
