Greetings everyone,

Fresh af here, hoping I'm posting in the right section.

I've got these silver dollars today from my LFS, at quite a cheap price. Tank glass was a bit murky and too full to notice, but once in my tank these marks were very visible.

Out of four specimen, just the two pictures have there noses dissolved or bitten off. hoping it's the latter and not damaging in the long term.

Would love to hear your feedback!

Peaceful fishkeeping everybody

That happens often to silver dollars when not happy (skittish, crashing against walls and decor). Often, secondary infections (fungal, bacterial) can develop. Offering good conditions (mainly space and good water quality) results in major improvement within just a few weeks. Medicines needed only if clear evidence of secondary infections.
It would be helpful if you post the size of the tank, how it is stocked, and general water characteristics. Silver dollars like to be in groups. How many you got? I see three in the picture which is not great but not too bad, but can depend majorly in gender composition of the group. If you post pictures showing the fish on the side, we can tell you what species and genders you have. They look like nice fish, genus Metynnis. Good luck!

Thanks for the information Francisco! There was lots of commotion in the bucket on my ride to home, but once introduced to their new home they were chilling and just following me around the room.

Aquarium they are kept in is a 100x60x75cm L/W/H

In total I have 4 SD (Different stages of growth) at this moment sharing the space with 8 young peacock cichlids and unfortunately 4 young common plecos which were with the tank, that I'll split or move in other tanks once they mature.

Tank is completely empty as far as decorations running a JBL e1502 canister.

I'll try to snap some better photos for sexing later when I have the lights on.

Thanks for your feedback! Much appreciated.

The dollars won’t like the light reflecting up from the bottom. You need a substrate for them, or at least a dark bottom.

Noted, that's a bit of a tricky one, I have these rocks that came in when I bought the tank.

I've been debating if I should use them or spend more than I did on the aquarium to get a good bottom.

Reason I'm put off from them is that I'm not sure if I will be able to vacuum properly and not sure how efficient my filter will be for removing the fish waste that reaches between them. As well as, would prefer some softer top.

Tho that photo was with lights at a 100%, which will never be kept more than 60%. But will still try to fix that asap.
