Hey everyone is it possible for me to get a silver arrow to go in my 5ft 100gallon . the fish is quite small , but i will upgrade my tank in the future. I have a large tropical community tank - 7" rainbow fish 6 inch Silver shark . 2X 4" angels and a few oither smaller fish.

Help appreciated and seasons greetings to you all

Adam

you will need a very big tank for a silver aro they can grow up to 4ft

you will need a tank thats 8ft long x 3ft wide min tank size

the aro will grow at 1-1.5inch per month

merry xmas

the 100g will last the aro 10 months to 1yr max

thats ok , as i mentioned i would be upgrading my tank within a year - probably a 300gallon custom built aquarium. Will the arrow be ok with my fish as i mentioned ap above or will i have to put them in another tank. Will the arrow be aggressive?

Thanks

Adam

my 3-4" silver arowana outgrew my vision 450 in about 6-7 months
they are a big commitment fish that is gonna cost a small fortune to look after properly
they are not aggressive ime and fine with most fish
happy xmas

cheers cane , yep i will definatly upgrade my tank in less than a year, So the aro will be fine (its only small ((about 4 inches) with all my other fish . i also have a shoal of 4 congo tetras which are about 1.5" . will this be ok.

Oh , and i am willing to look after and care for this fish properly :good:

have you thought about a asian arowana instead?they stay smaller and look much better, most silvers will probably get drop eye at least in one eye
if its 4" it will be ok with the congos but who knows once its grown a bit

To really appreciate just how big silver arowana's are and how much space they need you need to see a large adult in a large tank, i have a 27" long specimin which until a few months ago was in a 200 gallon tank, which by most people standard is a BIG tank. I have since moved him to a 900 gallon tank and to be honest i feel ashamed that i ever kept the fish in the 200 as it uses every last bit of the 48 square feet the tank covers, to be brutally honest even an 8x3x3 isnt really big enough for these huge active fish.

The Asian arowana's and even jardini's (though they have aggression problems) are much more suitable for home aquariums.

asians and jardinis dont get as big as the silver but asians normally cost a bomb, maybe two for a good specimen. and jardinis would risk tankmates. if you're gonna keep a silver in a 100g, i wouldn't let it be there for so long as a year. i feel that juveniles should be kept already in a minimum of 180g. the space would allow optimum growth and before you know it, it'd have to be in a 300g.

a proper silver arowana set up is whats gonna cost a bomb
it will probably have to be built at your house and this is not cheap
asian arowana maybe more expensive but set up is smaller and cheaper
you can keep a asian arowana in a off the shelf tank like the biggest rena and it will fit through your door

you can get an asian green for £100-150 thats not that expencive compaired to how much a tank and filteration is going to cost for a silver aro

thanks for suggestions guys, went to my lfs today and seen the aro , it was in a 1ft long tank and had a problem with its eye (one was huge and one was tiny) am i right in sayiung this is a case of 'drop eye?'

Anyway, i obviously didn't purchase the fish.

Thanks for all the help

Adam

thanks for clearing that up , anyways the fish didnt look to healty either so i left it .

if you buy a silver aro you have a 90% chance it will get drop eye at some point in its life

drop eye is dam ugly if you ask me and i wouldnt buy a fish with it their was a red tail gold for sale for £200 real cheap for a 12inch fish but i left it because of drop eye

you can buy a black are never seen one with drop eye

jardini very aggressive when they get to 10inch probably wont be able to keep any tank mates with it

or an asian green stay fairly small best bet to tell the truth if you want an aro
