Silly Oscar

My dirty oscar has now decided that when it wants fed it will jump up and hit the glass lid... normally I don't feed it when it does this, hoping it will stop... Anyways, while feeding it today, I open the lid, and have a pinch of cichlid pellets between my fingers... My fingers are easily 6'' above the water level.. the bugger jumps out of the tank, latches onto my fingers, and takes all the food from between my fingers..

Luckily it didn't draw blood or break the skin, but it was really weird... if this bugger does this all the time I'm going to have to feed it some other way.

I used to feed my oscar that way when he was little, I would hold the food above the water and make him jump for it to get the food. I realized that once he gets around 10 inches I don't think I would want him jumping out of the tank at my fingers. So I stopped feeding it to him out of the water, but if I am not paying attention and dangle my fingers around the tank he will jump up and try to get them for food.

I usually just stick my hand in the tank and he takes it from my fingers now.

Mine is psycho.. I've tried putting my hands in the tank and it tries to bite them.. it wants to eat alll the time.. it's getting kinda annoying... it has no personality whatsoever either.. it just wants to eat eat eat.

im havin the same trouble, anything hovering over the tank = food.


ive started throwing the prawns straight in the water and he doesnt jump as much anymore.

always takes a few seconds to make sure he knos what hes jumping for aswell.


doesnt hurt when they bite anyway. jus feels like sand paper. having sed that he is only jus about 7" so when hes twice the size i wont be doing it!

haha yeahh I hope when he gets bigger than 10 inches he won'tt be jumping much for food haha

Mine drew blood for the 1st time the other day, didn't exactly hurt but made me jump.

He's about 8-9" now.
