How big are betta fry?

I've looked up spawning on the internet, and it tells me that you can sometimes see the eyes of the fry when they are about to hatch. The bubble nests that my boys blow, their bubbles are really small. I couldn't imagine being able to see eyes in there!

Is a spawning bubble nest different to a normal 'I'm happy' bubble nest?

Ok I think I answered my own question...

OMG I think I do have fry if they are meant to be that tiny!!!

I saw something tiny zipping around in the water yesterday, so I chucked in some microworms just incase. Then I got myself mixed up with fry and microworms, so I decided that they weren't fry in the first place because they were just so tiny.

Then today while I was taking the male out, I saw something so tiny zipping around again. Is it a fry?

According to that link, what I saw might be a fry, but what confuses me is what I said in my original post. The site I went on said that you can sometimes see little worm looking things in the eggs (which is the fry) and then you can see the eyes. If that little tiny thing in the tank is a fry, and they are meant to be the size as shown in the link, how the hell can you see eyes on them?

Have I gone crazy?

fry look like mini sperm, their heads are about the size of a grain of sand. you deffinatly could have fry. heck every time I breed I cant even figure out how many I have till about a month...all too dam tiny to see and count:)

Here are some pics for you of some of our fry just after hatching....hope you do have some little wrigglers in there :good:

On this one they have just hatched and you can see all the black which are their eyes. Their bodies are pretty much transparent at this stage.

And here are some from another spawn hanging on the roots of some floating frogbit.

Mmm maybe they aren't fry then.

What I saw definately looks like a sperm sort of lol. They didn't have a bigger buldge as the head, and I definately couldn't see any eyes. They also seemed to stick to the glass, maybe I have something else in there like parasites or something?

THose are great pics Netty, I wish my camera was that good :p

You might have free swimming fry but they are near impossible to see arent they?

Are they sticking to the glass along the surface of the water or further down? It's quite common to get these little white wormy things in the tank...we've had them a couple of times. They are quite thread like and about 5 - 10mm long. There's also something else called Cyclops which can be found in tanks sometimes too which are whitish and really really tiny.

Thanks......I'm hoping to get better ones with my new camera when we do our next spawn. Hopefully I'll have learnt how to use it properly by then

Thanks netty.

Yeah they are tiny white things that mostly stick to the glass. Are they harmful? How can I get rid of them?
