Silica Sand Prices

Hi guys, i have been to my LFS and they are selling aquarium silica sand at £7/$12 for 10kg/22lbs

is this a good price

12 dollars for 22 lbs of sand....thats just expensive...

*i'd rather go to the beach and get a bucket of sand and wash it good*lol

Hi,

I just used playsand from ARGOS £2.49 a bag i think it was. Also available at homebase b&q etc, fish shops just charge ridiculous prices for the same stuff. Just wash it well and away you go, i've had 4 bags of the stuff now and have it in all my tanks no probs.

Yeah its only £7 tho for what i need. Its pre washed etc but i dunno.....

Sand used in filters for swimming pools is supposed to be silica sand and is in a larger grade than play sand so doesn't compact as easily.

Hi,

Whichever you choose, even if it says pre washed wash it again or you'll have a cloudy tank for weeks.
