Hi everyone. I like the sound of a silent cycle and would like to have a nice amount of plants in my tank.

I have a roma 200, with standard fluval u4 filter and 200w heater. Just wondering if the yeast DIY co2 setup would be required to do a fishless cycle or if my tank is too big for that to really be useful.

Basically asking, what do I need to add to be able to do a silent cycle?

I'm sorry, I have no idea what the specs for a Roma 200 is. What is the capacity and what is the wattage of the bulbs? Did you read the cycling pin on the top of this page.

Thanks! :good: So about 60W over about 55 gallons or so. Plant 75% of the substrate with plants. Good ones for your light levels include cryptocorynes, swords, vallis, h. polysperma, egeria densa, and egeria najas.

I don't usually add all my livestock at once, because I'm very selective about fish quality and it is rare that I find all my livestock at once, but others here have done it without a problem.

Your light levels are lower, so CO2 is not going to be an absolute necessity. You can certainly opt for it. Low-light tanks do great with CO2. The growth is very vigorous.

Thanks, I think I will go down that route. I am not worried about adding all livestock at once either. Would prefer to add them species at a time. As for the substrate, at the moment I just have gravel at the bottom. What do you suggest I do for that?

Also once its cycled and I have fish in would it be alright to remove some plants (75% will take up quite a lot)

Over time, what I have typically done is replace the faster growers gradually with slower growers. Eventually, there is less coverage. 75% isn't all that much.
