I have 3 Betta's now, but had three prior to that, that died of tail rot. We have tryed pills(Maracyn Two-Mardel) and drops(BettaFix Remedey-Splendid Betta)... the pills were useless, and all the drops did was prolong his torchor, they didnt seem to make him any better, raither they just kept his current condition and his fins didnt rot any faster nor did they fix themselfs. Two were just regular betta's and one was a crowntail. My three current ones are the same...there is no sign of tail rot, but i am sure their will be. My friend has one also and doesnt distile his water, nor filter it, and is useing city water.. and his fish seems to be fine, just a bit fat cause he over feeds it, but i use bottled water and after a month or so the colour is less viberant in my fish, they swim like normal, eat like normal, and nothing seems out of the ordinary, but soon after they get tailrot, and no matter how soon we catch it, nothing seems to work. I cant really say we have them in tanks, they become full with 2 and a half 500ml water bottles, and their water is changed once or twice a week and are fed everyday with blood worms. I am pretty sure but am wondering if i should go out and get a bigger tank and find a divider, and all the rest. But until then i am not quite sure what to do. i am sorry this realli has no general topic, just kinda all over the place, but i dont wanna see more of my fish dead to something that is normally not this impossible to cure.

Tailrot can be secondary bacteria infection.
Blood worms and flakes are a bad mix.
More variety in frozen foods and veg.

Well, maybe there isn't enough of something in the bottled water. Not enough electrolytes or minerals in the bottled water. My suggestion, is to just use the city water. It's much cheaper and all you have to do to it is buy some dechlorinator and add it to the water you're going to fill the tank with. The great thing about dechlorinators (other than cleaning the crap out of your water that will kill the fish) is that most of them enhance your fish's stress coat, so they're less likely to get sick. If you want to use bottled water still, then go for it. But be sure to get some type of stress coat additive or some aquarium salt to add to the water.

Bottled water is not good to use in fish tanks, tap water is much better. Bottled water usually has a very high mineral content and is usually very very hard. Tap water is far more beneficial with a bit of dechlorinator in it. Rainwater is also not very good either as it doesn't generally have the same sort of trace elements that tap water does and it can often be contaminated by the scarey things that are floating in the air and settling on our roof.

If I was you I'd give your tanks a really good clean, before using them again. Don't use soap as this will stick to the tanks surface and cause a toxic film, or if you do use soap then give it a good wipe over with some vinegar then rinse thorougly to remove any residue. Then I'd steralise them either using something like Milton (used for babies bottles) or if you've got a big enough pot you can boil them for 10 minutes on the stove, but it needs to be a good bubbling, rolling boil.

I't would probably be a good idea to get some proper Betta food and then only give them some bloodworms as a treat now and then along with some vegies like a mushed pea etc.

Hope all this helps, I really do hope your fish get better

Good luck :)
