I have a tank i would call, moderately planted and have been noticing some definite discoloration and Droopyness to some of the plants, i did previously house some fish who were pretty brutal on tbe plants but they have since been removed... i feed the plants with Flourish Excell (which works wonderfully in my other tanks) The biggest difference between the tanks is PH levels as the large tank with the issue has Coral in it as Decoration... so i guess the Question would be is the Higher PH what is stunting my plants or could it be something else? I've done some research on the plants and Lighting is sufficient for them in the tank... any ideas would be great... at this point its looking like i may have to pull the coral.

Can you post a picture of the aquarium? How long has it been setup?

I doubt it the ph, it doesnt seem to bother plants that much, seems to be just several things that really count, the first is lighting, and youve not changed your bulbs or regime your lights are on i take it, the second is nitrates, and the third is the amount of food (muck) in the substrate, i dont gravel clean my tanks much now, just where i can and the plants seem to be a lot better. di

Whats a good LIghts on - lights off Ratio... i have 4 40W life-Glo lamps on the tank so i think i have enough light, when i bought the plants (whose names i cant remember) i looked into light needs and bought ones with Lower lighting requirements... I have removed the coral and it has seemed to help a little bit, i guess its possible they are just taking a while to recover from the abuse handed out by previous tank inhabitants

What about CO2?
And muck on the bottom of the tank is bad because this can leach ammonia which algae spores need.

I dont have a C02 injection system, but i do feed the plants 2wice a week with Flourish Excel which did wonders for plants in my other tanks.
