Help, Just got back from work and found my Tiger barbs (all six of them) very lethargic and looking very different than normal. Mainly they are very active but tonight they look different , i,e, delicate movements and and have developed white tails and fins, not very active. All other fish look an act normaly.
I am new to this forum, so am trying to attach a photo from my phone, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Can you you see the photo?

Hiya how long have you had the tiger Barbs in your tank?

Also as an unrelated question, how doy you find their aggressiveness with other fish? I am thinking of getting some but donw want them to attack my other fish. i know it is best to keep them in groups of 6 or more.

Regards

Sam

Hi, Sambo,
The Tigers have been in the tank from day one, about three months ago, they get on very well with all other occupents, do not find them aggresive at all towards the other fish but am concerned to their health at the moment. Does the link work for the photo? I don`t believe this is normal.

Normaly they are th first ones to consume all of the food, but tonight only one of them attempted to eat, leaving flake on top of the water.

Could this be finrot? as I have only noticed it within the last 24 hours. There was deffinately no white on the fins last night.

Yes white edges is finrot if you don't get on top of it fast it soon kills a fish.

What could be the cause of fin-rot? slightly worried because the perameters of the water are good and the contition of the tank and water are very clean.

Treated them yesterday with Myxazin and Stress Coat, treated again this morning with Myxazin and will continue to treat for another three days, as recomended on the box. How often would I need to administer the Stress Coat as there are no guide lines on the bottle. When/If should I expect to see some improvements.

The pics are the worst affected Barb. Is there any hope?

Not sure on the stress coat never used it.
Could take a while the fins are bad, so I would go for two rounds at this moment in time.
Good luck.

It would be best to remove these barbs to another issolation unit and acclimatize them to the best clean water possible without stressing them.

The set up must have a high oxygen turn over.
could be weeks before you will see inprovement to the barbs fins.
Hope this helps you. :/

Stress Coat is a water conditioner has Aloe Vera included i dont think it is suitable or helps that much to repair fins.

A big thanks to all with advice,

The Barbs are not getting any worse and have started feeding. (A good sign I suppose). :good:

Hopefully it is a road to recovery.

I have learnt a lesson from this as I had a big cleanup before adding the med and the gravel was absolutely filthy.

Again, Many Thanks :thanks:

The descriptions on stresscoat says:

To help repair damaged skin and fins and replace slime coating, add 10ml per 10 gallons (38L) of aquarium water.

It has worked on my fish when the edge of their fins start to appear white..anfd yes it's also a water conditioner.

Thanks for the info on stress coat, however it does not advise on how often it should be added to the tank, any ideas or does it not really matter as it is not a medacine just a conditioner?
