Hello,

I did post this topic last night but have attached 2 photo's with this one. Note that the pale patch has now covered half of its body.

i bought a pair of gouramis 2 days ago, today i have noticed the male has a frayed fin (bottom fin), around the fraying is a large pale circle. Please please can someone help me in identifying whats wrog withhim as i have no idea how or if to treat this.

0 ammonia
0 nitrite
15 nitrate
PH 7.5
internal sponge filter
live plants
125 litres (27 uk gallons)
tank mates are 1 zebra danio (others died from stress), 1 bristle nosed catfish (bought at the same time as the gourami's)
temp 77F (should i raise the temp a couple of degrees?)
no airation stone.

He is hiding behind the filter most of the time, not feeding. He was fine when i first introduced him to the tank, he fed well and was trying to woo his female. Please can somebody help me, this s one of the most beautiful fishi have ever owned and i really couldn't stand it if it died.

Many thanks in advance

Jonny.

Sounds like bacterial finrot to me fraying fins and translucent fins.

Do you have any anti bacterial medication in your cupboard like Myxazin?

In my experience Myxazin treats bacterial infections very well (if that's your gourami has).

How is he doing now?

He is not very well at all, sitting in the top corner, he hasn't moved all day,the female hasgone quiet too, she is sitting at the bottom and not moving.
