Sick Platy

right a very immature person camme over yesterday and decided to poor half a tub of fish flakes into my tank i scooped out what i could but there were allready half eaten when i came down stairs

the platy this morning is really fat compared to his normal self and has scales sticking out all over his body and he was just sitting at the bottom of the tank i have seperated him at the moment is there anything i can do

Did you get all the food out and do a large water change?

If the scales are all over the body then it could be dropsy. If just the abdomen then yeah too much food so let him rest on his own, starved for a few days and plenty of heat. If after 3 days he looks better feed him a little squashed green pea to get him going again.

If its dropsy then theres nothing much you can do...

Added to say check ammonia too

yep got out all the food i could find and did water change this morning it looks like they are just on his belly or im just wishing cant tell which im rubbish at noticing stuff thanks for the reply by the way

do you think he would be ok to go back in with the other fish?

his in a breeding trap at the mo as other tank has fry in it

Will be fine to re add him back , but starve the tank for the three days then feed peas for a bit to get him back in order, the other fish will be ok with this too.

sorry ot hear about the little fella, i hope he gets well soon. i usually hide my food so my nices don't deciede to feed my fish. you should think of doing the same haha.
