I am hoping somebody can help me. I am a newbie and am going by what the pet store tells me to do. I have a 10 g tank with 2 platys. Yesterday I did a 25% water change, added aquasafe to the new water and filled the tank. I also added 2 tsp of aquarium salt per the pet store. They told me to add that every week. Should I also add aqua safe more often? I also just added 3 small bottom feeding algae eaters. One of my platys went into hiding today and I am worried he is sick/stressed. is there anything I can do for him? It is my son's. His first one died within hours of adding him to the tank, and I am worried it is happening again. The petstore tested our water and said it was fine??? All the other fish are quite active

thanks for any help you can give me.

Well, you should have posted in Tropical Fish Chit Chat and not in Marine and Reef Chit Chat because your tank is a freshwater tank and tanks in this subforum are saltwater tanks.

But anywho...

Did you cycle your tank? What are the water parimeters? Does the "Aqua Safe" remove chlorine and other harmful heavy metals?

Yes I cycled my tank for 2 weeks. Aqua SAfe does remove chlorine, etc. I apologize for posting incorrectly. I notice that the platys gils seem to be pinker than normal. I am going to have to get the water parameters. I just brought my water in for testing. I will get a testing kit for myself tomorrow. My petstore has been testing for me.

thanks

do you have an air pump? It could be oxygen starvation or a gill disease.

just to let you know algae eaters (plecos) do not tolerate salt
oh and petstore advice is not the most reliable advice you'll get, but now you've joined here theres plenty of people with the experience and correct knowledge to help :good:
what size is the tank?
are there anyother fish besides the plecs and platy?
also most petstores will only test the pH of the tank but there are many more important things to test for like, ammonia, nitrate and nitrite
i would suggest getting an API master test kit, its money wel spent :good:
