Hi guys new posting here, but been reading for about 4 months. I have a parrot fish that I believe has ick. He has white spots, rubs his body on the gravel and ornaments in the tank. He also kinda just rest/lays on the bottom of the tank. He is in a 75 gallon tank with another parrot, 2 bala sharks, 4 tiger barbs, 4 diamond tetras, 2 rams & 1 pletco. I asked the man at the petstore and he said he thinks it is ick. So I am treating the tank with a product called "API Super ICK Cure". I have been treating the tank for 3 days so far by doing what the directions say, removed filters etc. I am sch. to make a 25% water change and gravel suck friday. My parrot doesn't seem to be getting any better. How long does it usually take to cure ick? I have the temp set at 82deg F & have also added API Aquarium Salt. When should I see improvements? and also does this sound like it is ick? I hope I provided all the info and didn't miss anything. help me out guys! I will try to post a pic if I can get one.

Looks like ich to me. Turnthe temp up to 82 degree's, and buy some coppersafe. It works everytime. The ich will be gone in 2 days after the treatment was added. Best of luck!

It can take two rounds of meds to get rid of whitespot.

You removed the filters??
Yes the carbon filters. It says on the directions to remove them. Is there a different/better Ick med out there that I can try? I've had someone tell me coppersafe? anyone ever use this?

*Update*

The white spots seem to be almost all gone today. The only problem is that he still seem to not have really any energy and he wouldn't eat yesterday and he shows no interest in eating today. How long can fish usually go with out eating? I am doing a 25% water change and gravel suck on friday so hopefully that will help out.

Thats fine then :) , when i encountered whitespot years back i successfully treated it with "Anti Whitespot" by Interpet.

A fish like that should be able to go without food for up to a week or so. With the whitespot thing, the parasite has numerous life cycles (some of which it is immune to treatment in), if the white spots are disappearing from the fish then it sounds like the parasite is in the free swimming stage, and this is the stage where it is most vulnerable to being killed off by medication. So i would advise continuing treating the tank for at least the next week or 2 to help ensure that you kill off the parasite completely  . Keeping the substrate and tank glass very clean also helps get rid of the parasites too :good: .

My parrot seems to be swimming around good today. He doesn't seem to have much energy to eat thoe. So Should I do a 25% water change today and continue to treat the tank with another dose for a couple more days?? Also should I put new/The filters back in?? The tank is kinda dirty and water does need to be changed.

Do a gravel vac and water change.
Then just add the correct amount of med back to the water removed.
Some meds can knock a fish appetite.
They say garlic is meant to stimulate a fish appetite and boost there immune system.
Just soak his food in garlic juice, fresh garlic.
