Ok, one of my oscars hasn't been acting himself all day, he's usually out to say hello anytime I'm in the living room and today he's been way at the back. I fed them earlier on and he didn't make no attempt to move for food which is so unlike him I actually thought he had died.(Thankfully he was still alive)

There are no marks or any cuts on him at all, when he does swim he is swimming normal but staying low to the bottom which is also very unlike him.

He is around 3 inches and the other one is a bit bigger. They are both in along with two golden severums and they've always got on fine and today has been nose change there either.

They are in a 350ltr tank with gravel as substrate, I have wanted to change to sand but haven't done as yet.

Water stats are PH 7.6 - 7.8 | Ammonia 0 ppm | NitrIte 0 ppm | NitrAte 0 ppm |

I done the normal water change on saturday and he has only been acting this way since today.

Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, so I've bought a swim bladder treatment. I hope this works, he has gotten much worse overnight

oscars are grumpy gits, they hate you moving anything around in the tank, one of my old one hated waterchanges, sulking for days after, if you are still suffering problems, preform every other day 30% waterchanges, whats the heating temp? around 25-26c is a good temp i found, you know as your fish grow they will need a bigger tank? you may find it could be bullied, this usually happens when you not in the room

He died this morning.

The temp was 25.

He looked fine, he started twisting into different angles, he was rolling around and after a while died. He was looking better and I did have him seperated from the other fish. I really don't have a clue what was wrong and I'm really upset about it.there were no visable marks on him or anything that would suggest a problem. Would like to know what it was so as I could do something about it if anything ever happened like that again.

Sorry for your loss, its sounded like a bacterial gut infection with the twisting, it could have been caused by a blockage in his intestines. Do you feed them veg? if not, once a fortnight or weekly feed some cooked shelled pea's just to keep the insides working right. :good:

Thanks for replying.

Aye, fed veg, cucumber and peas, was suggested to me to feed carrots too but I didn't.

Thanks again.
