Hi everyone,

I have 4 platys in my tank, 3 females and 1 male. Recently one of the females has started to behave differently. She is not very active, usually sitting at the top or bottom corner of the tank. She will have the occasional swim, and she does eat. her fins are all lying down and her tail pointy not fanned.

She is looking slightly plump but not enough to convince me she is pregnant. Could anyone advise me to whether she is pregnant or sick?

I've tried attaching a picture but it is 1.3mb and wont accept it.

Your help would be hugely welcomed.

Have a look at this section in the forum:

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/253113-how-to-know-if-your-livebearers-ready-to-drop-fry-updated-150410/

It has good photos and explanations.

If the fish is not pregnant, then it could be something like dropsy.
What you need to do is keep an eye on the width of the fish. If it gets too wide or balloon like then it is likely to have some illness, particularly if the scales start lifting which is described as a pine cone appearance.

Lets hope shes pregnant.

Welcome to the forum UKSpeed.
We are not really set up with the space to hold much in the way of pictures here on TFF. Instead most people join a photo hosting site like photobucket and post their pictures there. By simply copying the IMG coded line from a host like that you can make you pictures appear to be here. This picture that I took of a harbor seal a couple of years back has a size of only 56k but has plenty of detail. I use a picture editor to reduce the file size from about a 4 MB and 3700 pixels wide original to a simple 800 x 600 file before I load it to photobucket. As you can see, the picture retains more than enough detail to be easily viewed by people here and it takes much less time for me to load it onto photobucket when the files are smaller. I never touch the original photo so if I ever decide that 800 x 600 is not good enough, I can always go back to the original image and do as I wish with it. If you load a 1.3 MB file to photobucket it can be posted here but may look huge on many people's screens.
