Hello - I haven't posted here before - hope this is the right place to do so...

I had a pair of Moonlight Gouramis, but one got violent towards the other and kept chasing it round the tank. I took it back to the shop, but not before (I think) it did some damage to the other.

His caudal fin has gone very floppy, and he can hardly swim. He just sits on the bottom, and occasionally struggles to the top of the tank for air. He only seems to be able to wiggle the top half of the fin - the rest just hangs there.

I thought it might have been fin-rot, so I treated him with Myxazin, but it didn't make any difference.

He's been like this for a couple of weeks now - I'm thinking of putting him out of his misery, but wanted to check whether there's anything I can do for him.

Thanks.

Does he have visible wounds? Does he eat well? If you want to continue treating him, make sure you lower the water level, so it is easier for him to get up and eat.

Thanks for the advice. He eats fine, although he seems to be losing weight. He doesn't have visible wounds, but the dark markings along the lateral line that were not particularly visible on the healthy one seem to be more pronounced. His colouration looks muted as well.

Just to let you know, he was dead when I came home tonight.

Thanks for your time!
