Hi,

New here but I had a question about treating my Jack Dempsey. He was looking like he had the hole in the head disease. He had white areas on his side and it looked like some of the scales were eroding around his head/body. I bought Aquarium Pharmaceuticals "General Cure" and followed the directions and performed a water change after using that. Since using the medicine my Dempsey, about 5 years old and a pretty good size about 8 inches long, has been staying mainly stationary and not eating. While it had symptoms prior to the medicine it was swimming around and eating normally. I have added some water neutralizer after cleaning the tank and added a new filter. I also turned down the water temp a little because he's not eating and I thought that may make him be able to live a little longer without him eating while I figure out whats wrong. Anybody have experience with this? I am hoping this is just part of the healing process with the medicine and that he gets better. Any tips/advice is appreciated.

what type of fish is he?

sorry that was a bad question. I would think that it should be healing. I think it just might take longer.

He's a Jack Dempsey like the original poster said.

The general way to cure HITH is to do regular, quite large water changes to keep the quality good and it should cure. Check out this link Hole in the Head treatment (not my website)

If you want to tempt him to eat try either worms or undyed maggots, prawns or something 'really tasty' to a fish. If one of my cichlids isn't eating I drop a worm infront of it's nose, that gets them eating again. Make sure to wash any kind of live food first though to avoid spreading anything. I fill a jug of water half-full and drop the worms in to remove any soil that could either make a mess or get caught in my fishes mouth.

Good Luck,

Good aereation and frequent water changes are all that can be said. Changing the filter over are not goin to help much as they require ideally, to be established and full of baccteria.

Frequent water changes (ideally 10%) and good eareation either from water movement or water cahngea are going to help your Jack. If he's not feeding it might be conditions areent ideal for him.

PPOGLOGIES I'LL redo this when i'm sover. Good nght out with the inlaws/

Thanks for the advice. Its storming now so I'm sure I can find some worms or something, if not I'll get something at the store tomorrow. Give it a water change again tomorrow too. I only removed one filter and ran it without one for only 48 hours after using the medicine. Hopefully things start to improve, I'll keep it updated.
