Sick Honey Gourami!?

heyaa,

iv recently bought (by ecently i mean about 2-3 weeks ago) 3 honey gouramis, one red robin, male, and two honey, one male and one female, the honeys have gone the colours they go when they breed, but have never seen them build a nest or 'swirling round each other'. and the males dont seem to be pertering her either. however over the last 3 days, she has been siting at the front of the tank 'looking outside'.

i take it this isnt normal behavior and i love my little gouramis and really do not want to lose one. she was perfectly healthy when she came to the tank and all the fish are happy and well.

every now and again she will go and pick up some scraps, or be cleaning up around her, then she will lay still,


i cant see any symptoms, but the only thing bothering me, this may be normal is she has a little white spot above her mouth area that i have never noticed before (this maybe because iv never seen the top of her much as she's always swam around hapily. im begining to consider it being whitespot or that bacteria disease which gouramis get.

all water is fine, ph is 0, did a water change last night, nothing seems to have changed in behavour.

Ah, just to conclude (makes it more comfusing) the white spot isnt anything, shes just swam up a bit and had a good luck and lucks like its just her 'lips' that are like it, iv chacked and the male honey has it too, sorry for the comfusion

it sounds like it could be the fungus

is it a fluffy ish spot - the white spot is just like grains of salt and you usually get more than one spot
the fungus looks fluffy ish

i would get some interpet - anti internal bacteria - the outside spot could be a sign of something going on inside
be prepared you might lose her

once gouramis get sick it's very hard to treat them

yeah it isnt that, im chacking her out (good that shes sitting at the front of the tank) and im not sure the white thing is anything to be worried about.

however how much are the eyes supose to pop out? sorry if this sounds dumb but her eyes seem to have popped out slightly more than the males, is this just normal? she definatly isnt well and i keep preparing myself to find her dead but she doesnt seem to be looking dead, just not active like she usually is, i hope she will pull through.

i cant see any other symptoms other than her eyes, and the fact her tails quiet droopy when she swims, but whats effecting this? its winding me up for sure lol x

anti internal bacteria by interpet treats popeye - when the eyes are poking out
it dont affect the beneficial bacteria and is ok with shrimps and snails , corys etc

and lots of other stuff i would add that hun

nitrate: had all these tested yesterday and all was fine think he said that oh was 0, along with other, but he said the water quality is perfect so he doesnt understand why any fish would be ill. ( the petstore man owns 5 other freshwater and marine aquariums so i get him to test them for free, cheaper and easier and he'll tell me if aqnythings wrong ect.)

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): right well fish is sitting at the bottom of the tank and isnt being normal, by this i mean she usually swims around with her tank mates happily. she is her normal colour, yellowish with a vbrown stripe through her body. the only symptoms i can see (wether this is just acceptable i dont know) is that her eyes seem more popped out than the males (slightly more.) it may just be like a cover over the eyes and if so what does this signal?

Volume and Frequency of water changes: water change every week (once) about 10 - 20% water change.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: this meaning what i add to the tapwater? if so bioactive tapsafe?

Tank inhabitants: 2 platys, 2 other male honey gouramis, 2 ottos, 5 neon tetras, 2 pygymy cories.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): added the gouramis, corys and platys around 3 weeks ago (was all well and happy.)

Exposure to chemicals: (meaning?)

Digital photo (include if possible): will download onto in about 10 mins x

what you bought wont help internal bacterial problems so give it a miss. popeye is a build up of fluid around the brain and is usually linked to dropsy. All you can really do is see if you can take her out to another tank, quarantine tank everyone should have.
Do some water changes of about 25% each day with gravel vacs and keep the water as healthy as you can.
As for temp you need to buy a thermometer to make sure the water is warm enough for your fish...

if the eye bulge gets worse or theres more swelling of the abdomen and scales start to pinecone then im afraid its the end. there is interpets anti internal bacterial product but its hit and miss as to whether or not this actually works. medicated food is needed and sadly in the uk there isnt any you can buy.

ok, well ill make sure i do water changes alot and then see what happens, i really hope it isnt anything and she pulls round. i love my honeys, thinking about it, more than the red honeys if im honest.

i really want another honey gourami if she passes away, iv never got round to giving her a name, and seems she has been a great companion, and hopefully i wont have to say goodbye, im going to name her faith, as iv always had faith in her and i hope she will have faith and hopefully pull through x

Oh no! iv just done a water change and i have just a tube on my gravel vac, just as its easier to clean the sand with and i came nearish to faith and the tube got stuck to faith! luckily she pulled away from it and swam off.

what a help i am! i hope it didnt hurt her too much

maybe iv just now shortend the amount of time she has left

Update i dont think shes going to make the night. she is very bloated and is off balance lying on the floor. all i can do for her now is to leave her in peace
