Sick Goldfish - Please Help

Funny you should say about switching to tropical because that is exactly what i'm doing, i want to sort this out first but i have a new home for them lined up with a lady from my riding stables who will put them in a big pond when they grow to a good size (just dont particularly want to give her an ill fish) But they will be going soon-ish so then im starting a planted tropical tank :) (as i have the feeling that the tropis will be alittle less messy lol)

And again thankyou so much for all the help Sarah,
Jorel

hi Jorel

After nearlly 20 years of coldwater fish i switched to tropical and god how easy it is , you still need to do the weekly gravel vacs and water changes but the tank stays a hell of a lot cleaner

all you'll need to do is add a heater and make sure you add fish as soon as possible so the bacteria in the filter doesn't die i would do a 100% water change and a really good gravel vac then add all new de cholinated water , add your heater in the evening and go buy the fish in the morning just get a group of 6 smallish fish to start off with to keep your filter going then test your water again and if its ok get some more the following week

best of luck , what sort of tropicals are you after ? - do lots of research and ask lots of questions about the type of fish you are looking to get this will stop any incompatibility issues , minimum tank size , aggression etc

ask me questions if you like i dont know that much but together we will get the answers

ARGH!!! It was going so well, and today i decided the water tests could wait till this evening as theyve been absolutely perfect. The goldy was even healing up, i get home after sorting out the horse and shes got another growth ARGH!! So i test the water Nitrite about 0.75 and ammonia about 0.25. Why me!! Im nearly out of meds as well and i have to redose, now cos of the water change but i can get up to the LFS to get any more cos i had a riding accident. ARGH!! Im so depressed!!

it could be the poisons water in that has caused the growth hun so just give her a days few and see if getting the water right again helps thgrowth go back down

:-( the other goldie is now sick :-( all his fins are clamped to his body, i dont know whats wrong with him. :-( So depressing :-( Please help me out on this one too :-(

Argh!! The water stats are freakin mental, the nitrite and ammonia had rocketed, i had done a water change yesterday night aswell!! Anyway i did another water change this afternoon due to the stats being so ridiculous, and the fins have unclamped now *sigh of relief* now though i have to go to the lfs tomorrow and get more treatment for the other one

I'm trying to work out what has caused these spikes, i do have bog wood in the tank which i have now removed as truckasaurus123 said it is known to rot in aquariums. Its in a seperate bucket of water and will test that to see if its that causing the problems. If it isnt does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Jorel

do a 75% water change add an airstone to the tank and then add the treatment right away
test the water in 2 days time and post the results hun
we'll see what to do then

good luck
