Hi,

I have two Molly dalmation fish. One has been chasing the other on and off for two days. Now the one that has been chased has spent most of the day hiding and is now at the bottom of the tank and is listing slightly against an ornament.

Tank is 3 months old and was water tested last weekend(when the fish were purchased)and was fine, one water change two days later.

My question is, is my molly just tired or hiding or is there something else wrong? Going to buy a test kit first thing and test myself tomorrow. Just hope its not too late.

How many gallon or litres is the tank?
How many fish and which type?
Can you isolate the fish?

Does the fish look pale or darker in colour?
Does the fish look bloated?
Is the fish able to maintain it's balance in the water?
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet?
Does the fish turn upside down.
Is the fish resting for long periods. Leaning to one side?

Hi,

45 litres
3 x Neon tetra
2 x Molly dalmation
Not sure about isolating, don't have the equipment to hand.
Fish look fine not bloated, but i don't have much experience.
When they are swimming look fine, never turns upside down, however one is resting for long periods at the bottom of the tank and is leaning to one side.

neon tetra shouldn't be kept in no less than a group of six. Due to being shoaling fish.

Resting on bottom of tank and also leaning to one side, can be an indication of a bacterial infection.
I think I would treat the fish with an internal bacteria med.

Many thanks i will pick some up tonight, we have 3 tetras because we were nervous about adding too many too soon, also we were told that the maximum amount of fish we could have for our tank would be 8 fish.

I would think adding about another 3 neons and leave it at that. But not till things settle back down after using the bacterial medication.
The problem with small tanks is that you are very limited to what fish you can keep.

Really the mollies, and neons need to be in no less than a 10 gallon. Due to being active fish.

The mollies are they both females, males?

Sorry no idea. just got the anti bacterial medication. So the plan is to do another 20% water change tomorrow

Maybe start a thread in the livebearers section, on how to sex mollies.
2 females to 1 male.
If you keep both sexes you will be over run with fry.
